Sydney Trip

On the 14th July 2011, thirty four legatee children accompanied by six adults flew into Sydney to stay on the Harbour for four days.  The day started well, with inclement weather outbound arriving to a bright sunny day in Sydney.

We arrived at lunchtime at Land’s Edge, in Chowder Bay, right on the Harbour down the road from Mosman, in renovated naval barracks.  After a light lunch, we visited the tunnels which housed the gun emplacements protecting Sydney during WW1 & 2.  After dinner, the night was spent deep in conversation broken with periods of games and movies.

The activities increased on Day 2, firstly with a water taxi trip into the Sydney Opera House, a train ride through the Botanic Gardens and then to the Opera house to view a member of Cirqu De Soleil perform acrobatics on the stage.  It was then time to traverse the harbour, with a leisurely trip around enjoying the sights, taking photos.

In the afternoon, we boarded the South Steyne Floating Restaurant and enjoyed fresh seafood, steak or for those less adventurous, the chicken nuggets.  At night, we took turns to destroy all the Sydneysiders in Laser Tag, where our teams all took first prize.

Saturday, our last real day of activities, involved rafting in the cold harbour where we took turns at learning to paddle as teams on the inflatable dinghy.  In the afternoon the children enjoyed an interactive display from Boolarng Aboriginal Experience.  During the story telling discussing the relationship between aborigines and kookaburras, several kookaburras flew in and landed in the branches behind.

To end the day, we made a special visit to Luna Park, where everyone was spun and twisted around before returning to Lands Edge, heading off to sleep before the early flight home.
