Welcome

Victoria Police Legacy

Victoria Police Legacy provides support and services to people in the police family who have lost a husband, wife or partner who is a serving or retired sworn member of Victoria Police. We also provide support and services to serving or retired sworn members who have lost husbands, wives or partners. Recently, support has been extended to a cohort aptly named Friends of Legacy which includes legatees who have moved into a new relationship, parents of serving members of Victoria Police, where that  member was not in a relationship at the time of their death and other people who have been deemed by the Board to have provided significant support to Victoria Police Legacy.

Victoria Police Legacy is a not-for-profit public benevolent institution that has Australian Taxation Office Deductible Gift Recipient status. Our income is mainly derived from the extremely generous financial support of the many thousands of sworn members of Victoria Police ranging from the newest recruit to the Chief Commissioner without whom much of the high quality support and services would not be possible. This is complemented by bequests, sponsorship, returns on investment and other donations.

Commencing in 1980 to initially care for a small group of widows and children, Victoria Police Legacy now provides support and assistance to over seven hundred legatees and Friends of Legacy. Current support and services include emotional support and counselling, personal visits by the field officer, advocacy on a range of issues, fellowship and social activities are provided vide regional luncheons and inter/intrastate excursions.  There are biennial children’s camps, youth development/life experience trips and programs and whole of family trips away. We also conduct Christmas functions, acknowledge birthdays and provide special occasion gifts, initial driving lessons, advanced driver education and the extremely popular Connection Days where legatee children visit a police facility and are hosted by members of that particular workgroup.

Financial support includes a range of educational grants, from $750 pa for kindergarten to $5000 pa for university students. Other grants include a secondary school grants, career starter, apprenticeship and for mature age study. Financial support is also provided for home maintenance, medical purposes, financial hardship and reimbursement for the preparation of a will.

Victoria Police Legacy is about looking after your mates, colleagues and most importantly their families when the loss of a loved one befalls them.
