On June 17, we came together across Australia to honour, reflect, and recognise the incredible work of our eight Police Legacy organisations. From heartfelt ceremonies to shared stories and symbolic tributes, the day was filled with connection, compassion, and community spirit.
Police Legacy is there when it matters most - supporting families through grief and helping them find strength, resilience, and hope.
This year's NPLD celebrations were heartfelt and inspiring. The Victoria Police Academy came alive with a deep sense of camaraderie and respect. Events including the Superintendents Parade, a shared BBQ, a moving chapel service, Michaelmas Daisy planting by two police legatee recruits, and the lighting up of the Academy at dusk beautifully reflected the spirit of the day. Over at Deganis at the Victoria Police Centre, members of the blue family gathered to share stories, memories, and strength.
We were overwhelmed by the generosity and support from so many across the community. Our deepest thanks go to organisations including Victoria Police, The Police Association Victoria, BankVic, Crown Melbourne, Bunnings Warehouse Australia, Mitre 10, and Bosch Australia, whose contributions helped bring this day to life in ways that truly mattered.
We’d also like to make special mention of Premier Jacinta Allan and the Victorian State Government for acknowledging National Police Legacy Day by lighting up prominent landmarks across our city to honour the first ever National Police Legacy Day. From the Shrine of Remembrance to Flinders St Station, the NGV, AAMI Stadium and the Arts Centre Melbourne, buildings glowed in tribute to those who have served and the families they’ve left behind, offering the chance for all Victorians to pause and reflect on the sacrifices made by those who serve, and the support needed for those left behind.
A heartfelt thank you also goes to our many amazing VPL Ambassadors and Volunteers - the quiet heroes behind the scenes. Your dedication and passion made the day not only possible, but profoundly meaningful.
National Police Legacy Day 2025 reminded us of the enduring strength of the policing community and the importance of looking after those who look after us.
To everyone who joined us, donated, or shared in the spirit of the day - thank you. You helped shine a light on the power of support beyond the badge.
